cron publish 7 months 2 weeks ago 372 - Tunnel of Fears - Phantom Shadow

Kettle Valley Rail Trail, Greenwood, BC, CA

Words such as "menacing", "death trap" and a "threat to life" were not once said about a ninja, but a tunnel, which was built in 1913 for cars to pass below a newly constructed railway. Despite the ominous warnings this one lane tunnel served for over 50 years before being filled and buried when a new two lane tunnel was built in 1964.

Like a ninja this tunnel rose from the ashes, when the railroad was abandoned in the 1990s and the tunnel was uncovered to serve as a heritage landmark. To combat graffiti, a mayor of Greenwood hand painted 210 flags on the tunnel over a two year period, transforming the tunnel of fears to the tunnel of flags.

A master ninja has been touring through the area enjoying the scenery and trails the valleys in the area has to offer. As a token of his appreciation to the people of the area he has left behind his backpack and if you act quickly you can snag it for yourself.

In celebration of Canada Day the ninja master left his backpack directly beneath the flags of Canada and Japan (it truly is amazing how things sometimes work out perfectly).

cron publish 7 months 3 weeks ago 117 - Hayden Fry statue - Sonic

1st Ave, Coralville, IA, US

Hayden Fry was the Iowa Hawkeye's 25th football coach. He was the head coach from 1979-1998. During his time at Iowa, his record was 143-89-6. He took a struggling Hawkeye Football program and turned it around. Fry won three Big 10 Championships and took the Hawkeyes to 14 bowl games in 20 years - including three Rose Bowls! Fry had a big impact on the traditions for the Iowa football team. He was the coach that ordered the creation of the Tiger Hawk logo. And of course, Hayden Fry was the person responsible for having visitor's locker rooms be painted pink in order to have a calming effect on the opposing team. Hayden Fry was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2009, Fryfest was created to kick off the football season-this has become a very popular annual event!

Hint: Bushes behind statue about 3ft up and 4 inches in.

The Japanese Peace Garden is a great place to obtain zen. Thus, Zen Ninja doesn't wish for anyone who may be enjoying the peacefulness of the garden to be disturbed; therefore, he has hidden his backpack outside the garden gates. You need only peer through the windows of the ishidoro, day or night, to find what you seek. However, if it is zen you seek, you'll need to visit between sunrise and sunset.

jtcoffee publish 7 months 3 weeks ago 287 - Birthing Tree - McMinnville, TN - Quick Sword

Vocational Technical Dr, McMinnville, TN, US

Birthing Tree – City of McMinnville TN Birthing TreeStanding as a silent sentinel to the town, this enormous white oak (Quercus alba) welcomes travelers into the city of McMinnville. While only 81 feet tall, the crown spreads 130 feet, with several of the lower limbs larger than many trees. However, it is not its size that gives this white oak notoriety; the Birthing Tree is steeped in local folklore. The tree was a local landmark for settlers passing through the area. Travelers from North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia would journey through Knoxville on the Old Kentucky Trail. These trails converged at Rock Island (the closest city at that time) and then passed under the spreading branches of this giant tree before continuing south to Alabama. The huge oak was a well-known meeting place for these weary travelers. Some waited for long periods of time for fellow settlers to join them. Others lingered because of bad weather or lack of supplies. Many local families also recount stories of grandparents who knew someone born at the tree due to the extended delays. At one time it was even thought to have been part of the infamous “Trail of Tears” on the march to Oklahoma, although local historians discount this. However, the tree has been known for over 150 years is the subject of numerous local stories and rumors. Many family meetings have been held at the tree. The Birthing Tree stands across the street from the McMinnville River Park Hospital at 1559 Sparta Highway (Hwy. 70) on a private residence. The owners donated the tree to the City of McMinnville in 2012. American Heritage Trees collected seeds from this tree in fall of 2015. hint, under 2nd rock. Just off Hwy 61 near Maquoketa, IA you will see where this Master Ninja will be. You will see the huge wall of 4 old lime kilns originally built in 1870 that makes this a unique place to hide. The kilns have doors and "windows" that are locked, sealed or grated to prevent anyone from climbing into them so you will find him hanging around outside one of the windows. Bring a tool to cut the tether.

Klosterweg, Karlsruhe, BW, DE

In the eastern City of Karlsruhe you find a special place of silence and peace in a little forest : surrounded by a green meadow and old trees an amazing building is showing up, the Spulchral Chapel of the Grand Duchy. Grand Dutch Friedrich 1. lost his son Ludwig Wilhelm of Baden in the early age of 23 years. The parents decided to burry him apart from city noise in the peace of forest. They let build Spulchral Chapel from 1889-1896. Meanwhile 17 Dutches and princesses are burried in this chapel. Hilda von Nassau was the last person in 1952.

Still today this beautiful place is touching, especially in the early morning when birds a singing in the forest.

My Urban Ninja is enjoying this place until YOU will come an pick it up ....look at the last photo ;-)

cron publish 7 months 3 weeks ago 229 - Jiraiya the Gallant lost his........ Backpack - Cloaked Mamba

W Main St, Mesa, AZ, US

Jiraiya the Gallant found himself a long way from home, 10138 kilometers to be exact! But this is where his tale led him and where this chapter of his life ends... Dreading the start of the newest chapter and knowing that it means the end of this one....

2 months before this fateful day he sent his beautiful bride, Tsunada, to the city to undergo procedure to save her life. Jiraiya the Gallant knew that it was risky, But to not send her meant certain death...

With a promise of reuniting with his bride Jiraiya mounted his faithful steed and headed of to the far away land, love swelling in his heart. After a long journey that found him lost on Florida for a while, made his way to the city. His bride was waiting for him.

TSUNADA! I HAVE COME! My bride, You've been saved and by that so have we!

Little did Jiraiya know that he had not sent his bride off to be saved, but to be enchanted by Orochimaru, his enemy. By his own hands and by trying to save his bride, he had sent her right into the arms of his enemy.

When Tsunada saw Jiraiya, she had no memory of his kindness, no remembrance of his touch. Only the new found hate that Orochimaru had place there.

TSUNADA! IT'S ME! DON'T YOU RECOGNIZE ME? I'M YOUR HUSBAND.

She was lost and lost to him.

Orochimaru, used the heartbreak of Jiraiya to attack knowing now that he couldn't stand up to his snake magic in his weakened state.

Orochimaru attacked!

Jiraiya didn't block. Jiraiya didn't do anything to defend himself or save himself. He let his death come.

Our hero silently thanked Orochimaru as he watched the end of his life effortlessly glide towards his head through his heart.

His steed, the true hero of this story, flicked Jiraiya from his back just as the evil Orochimaru's blow landed. Jiraiya's mount sacrificed himself to save his broken rider. The snake magic split the stead in two and paralyzed both halfs mid leap.

Jiraiya found himself humbled by the sacrifice and destroyed by the prospect of now having to honor the sacrifice...

He doesnt care, he doesn't even know it happened. But when his steed flicked him from its back. The blow glanced his backpack it it was lost. Some say it's still there laying at the base of the frozen mount. Jiraiya doesnt want it, and he doesn't care. It is nothing but a bag of memories of what could have been but never will be.

Maybe you need them. Maybe you can find a way to tell this tale... Maybe, just maybe, you will find a way to put its contents to good use.

Look at the base of Jiraiya the Gallant's frozen, divided, steed!
